Except where there is a specific reference to the contrary, all the following routes are suitable for towing.

From the M6 southbound

The fastest way from M6 junction 20:

  1. M56 westbound; A5117A550A494A55 westboundjunction 10 or 9; throughCaernarfon; to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone turn left at first roundabout then third right over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

A more scenic route, though still reasonable when towing:

  1. M56 westbound; A5117A550A494; eastboundjunction 35; southbound; A5104;A5, to Bala; to Trawsfynydd; to Porthmadog; to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

From the M6 northbound

The fastest route is to go to junction 20 and follow the route above.

A slower but shorter route:

Leave at M6 junction 16 and follow A500 westbound; A51 to just before Chester; A55 westbound tojunction 10 or 9A487 through CaernarfonA490 to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

A more scenic route, though still reasonable when towing:

Leave at M6 junction 16 and follow A500 westbound; A534 towards WrexhamA5156 to avoidWrexhamA483 southbound; A525 to LlandeglaA5104A5A494 to BalaA4212 toTrawsfynyddA470A487 to PorthmadogA497 to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

From the M54

The fastest way (though slightly slower, but considerably shorter, than going to M6 junction 20 if joining theM54 from M6 junction 10A):

  1. A5Llangollen and Corwen; to Bala; to TrawsfynyddA470; toPorthmadog; to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

Or:

A5A458 through Welshpool and Llanfair CaereinionA470past TrawsfynyddA470A487 toPorthmadogA497 to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

A shorter, scenic, route (not suitable for towing):

A5B4396 through Knockin (look out for the village shop); A495B4396 (again) through Llangedwyn;B4391 through Pen-y-bont-fawr and Llangynog to BalaA4212 to TrawsfynyddA470A487 toPorthmadogA497 to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

From the A49 northbound

The fastest way:

After Craven Arms A489 to Church Stoke; A490 to WelshpoolA458 through Llanfair Caereinion;A470past TrawsfynyddA487 to PorthmadogA497 to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

A slightly slower, scenic, route (not suitable for towing):

After Craven Arms A489 to Church Stoke; A490 through Welshpool;; B4391 through Pen-y-bont-fawrand Llangynog to BalaA4212 to TrawsfynyddA470A487 to PorthmadogA497 to Pwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.

From South Wales

Join the A470 at a convenient point and continuepast TrawsfynyddA487 to PorthmadogA497 toPwllheli.  Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately straight ahead as the road bears sharp right.
